The main problem of an oily skin is that your chin and forehead always give a shiny look. Once you try to remove the shine it appears again. There are many reasons for this problem.
Genetic Effects
Many a times this problem is related with the genes and travels down the generation.
Changes in Hormones Â
During the period of adolescence harmonic changes occur in the body that cause skin to become oily and produce acne. Though most of the changes occur during teen age and early 20s, this is not always the case. A large number of women can experience the problem of oily skin during the menstrual period, pregnancy or the menopause. Even some birth control medicines can cause skin to become oily. A Positive Point
Though oily skin may seem to be problematic, it has one glaring advantage as well. An oily skin gives a younger look to the people. A person with an oily skin is less vulnerable to wrinkles as compared with those having normal or dry skin.
Here are a few useful tips to manage your oily skin and at the same time retain its advantages.
Frequent Washing of Face
Most of the oily skin problems can be handled at home with simple remedies. You may not consult your doctor for an oily skin problem unless the acne appears or the skin becomes oily suddenly without any plausible reason of menstrual periods etc.
Another related problem with oily skin is that it looks rather dirty most of the time. You may otherwise like to wash your face in order to remove the dirt and thickness. It is recommended that you should wash your face at least twice a day. This will keep the extra oil away from your face and also will remove the feeling of carrying a dirty face in the public.
Some dermatologists suggest that you should add a few drops of detergent in the soap while washing the face. The detergent will act as a solvent for the oil on skin and will clean it instantly. However the detergent may prove harsh for many skins and may create irritation. You can try this if you deem necessary. However if the detergent proves too harsh for the skin, you can neutralize its effects by applying glycerin that is easily available on any drugstore.
Remove Additional Oil
Extra oil on the skin can be removed or absorbed by adopting different techniques. One is to apply Aloe Vera gel. This gel is easily available on many drugstores and departmental stores. This gel removes the extra oil and cleans the skin pores effectively. Apply the gel on the face for about three times a day, particularly after washing the face and keep it there till it dries up. If you keep the gel in the refrigerator before using, it will feel more refreshing when applied on the face.
Use of Alcohol / Acetone
Another method to remove the extra oil is to wipe the oily parts of the skin with alcohol or a mixture of alcohol and acetone. This mixture creates same effect as the expensive perfumed astringents do. Some pre-moistened alcohol wipes are available that can be carried in the handbags for quick touchups as and when needed.
